TEDEd HTS is proud to announce their third event, taking place on Wednesday, December 15th from 7-9 pm. The theme for our event is Spark - igniting the fire within. Sometimes our own fire goes out and is rekindled by the spark of another individual. Each of us has to think with great gratitude for those who have lighted the flame within us.

This event will feature Senior School students who have prepared live and pre-recorded speeches, with topics ranging from the pandemic, innovative technology, social justice and STEM. Similar to our previous events, we will be holding our event virtually through an interactive platform called Venue. The event has concluded, but feel free to watch our speakers' talks using the button below!

Angela S. - Online Learning During COVID-19

My name is Angela and I am looking forward to being a speaker at the December TEDEd event. I am a Grade 10 student at Holy Trinity School and I am passionate about art and tennis. I joined the TEDEd club because I wanted to try something new and improve my public speaking skills. During my speech, I would like to talk about and share my personal experience on the impacts of COVID-19 and the transition to online learning.

Ava S. - Pressure on Younger Siblings

I’m Ava and I’m fortunate to be speaking at the TEDEd conference this December. This year marks my fourth year at HTS, but also my first in the senior school. I’ll be talking about how the pandemic has affected teenagers and children. This includes some of the mental impacts online school has had, as well as the influence the lockdowns have had on our physical well being. I would describe myself as someone who loves sports, so I know firsthand how devastating the virus was to fellow athletes.

Nayna N. - Metaverse

My name is Nayna and I am one of the December TEDEd speakers. I came to the school in grade 1 and I am currently a grade 9 student. As a very shy person, I really wanted to step outside of my comfort zone by joining TEDEd. I will be talking about the new technology that has been introduced called the Metaverse.

Niki K. - The Social Stigma Towards Depression

My name is Niki and I am one of the December speakers here at TEDEd. I am a new grade 11 student at Holy Trinity. I am interested in drama and joined TEDEd to challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone. I am passionate about using my platform to help the people within my community. As such, I will be talking about the social stigma towards depression and the effects it has on our mindset. I am excited to be participating in the December TEDEd event and hope to see you all there!

Oscar P. - Ethical Concerns of Gene Editing

My name is Oscar and I am pleased to be a speaker at the December TEDEd conference. I am currently a grade 11 student at Holy Trinity School. Although public speaking is not necessarily one of my strengths, I am trying to improve my skills through participating in clubs such as DECA and MUN. The topic for my TED Talk will be about the ethical concerns of gene editing using the CRISPR technology.

Serena M. - Women in STEM

My name is Serena, this is my first year at HTS and I am in grade 9 this year. Some of my interests are playing soccer, reading (favourites are fantasy novels), and anything STEM related (coding, math, etc), which may or may not be related to my topic. The reason why I wanted to become a TEDEd speaker is because I feel this is a great way to improve my public speaking skills and step out of my comfort zone. I am so excited to be a TEDEd speaker this year, and I can’t wait for the event.

Sydney C. - Ignorance is Bliss, but Bliss is Stupid

My name is Sydney and I am delighted to be speaking at the upcoming TEDEd conference. I am a grade 11 student at Holy Trinity School and am passionate about Model UN, public speaking, and global issues in our world today. I would like to spread a message about what I believe is the root of such issues: ignorance.

“The world is a dangerous place not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing.”
